IV First Aid Championship in High School no. III

On the 27th of February, 2014 the IV First Aid Championshiptook place in in the Alfred Litynski High School no. III. Ten teams, four members each, signed up to participate in the event. The teams are composed of first-year and third-year students from our high school.

First aid refers to the witnesses or people involved in an accident performing  simple and urgent life support before the arrival of an ambulance. Its primary aim is to protect human life and health. Any witness, participant, or perpetrator of an accident is obligated morally, as well as legally, to provide first aid. This is why, for the 4th time, did our students have the opportunity to practise and test their life-support skills. The event was organised by class IID with the help of students from class IIC, IIA and IIIA, supervised by Mrs Katarzyna Witkowska. The championship included a theoretical test, which every participant had to pass, and an assessment of their practical skills, for which 6 simulation stations (including falling down the stairs, fainting, and violent assault) were prepared. The stations were located on school ground. Each of them required first-aid skills.

Paramedics from the State Higher Vocational School in Suwałki were assigned to the stations in order to assess the performance of the competing teams. The event progressed swiftly, everyone attended to their duties, there weren't any organisational issues. All of the teams did very well, however, only the highest-ranked three were rewarded. The rewards were funded by  the PTA? of the School Complex no. 1. In this edition of the first three places were awarded to the teams from class IC – the medical class. All of the participants of the championship had a great time but it's good to keep in mind that, while having fun, they also passed an important test, which may one day help them save someone's life.
